17th December 2006 saw a brilliant dawn and a large bunch of pirates running
a mock in villages around Sancton and North Cave.
Not much pillaging went on but after a stop - start due to Mrs. Midgley's
under garments not taking the strain, we all ran somewhat cautiously up the icy
road and into the muddy fields.
Jed's flag could be seen for miles and a good response was attained from lots
of passing traffic. The odd person we encountered did look a little bemused, to
be expected as it must have been a bit of a shock to encounter a herd of pirates
on your normal Sunday 'quiet' stroll.
Patsy ran up to the 4 mile mark to a rendition of happy birthday.
We all ran, laughed and talked for a further 4 miles, although Gary had some
back trouble which affected his running but not his eating or drinking, later at
the pub.
8.5 miles completed we all scrubbed up for some grog and biscuits at the
tavern. I think the photos on the next page tell it all and thanks to Roger
Foster for these.
